Traveling down South… Enjoying the History of Baton Rouge..!

 People who know me know that I am not a city girl… but I do enjoy history.  Back when we originally planned our trip to Florida in February we had planned to take a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana… before we found out it was the same week as Mardi Gras and decided that wasn’t the best idea.  That is when I first looked online for what I wanted to do when I got to Baton Rouge.  I was excited that I was finally going to be able to check these items off my list. 

The main place I wanted to go was the Rural Life Museum… an outside museum that contained the history of how life was in the 1800’s.  This museum contained more than 30 buildings that give you a picture of how life was back in the day.  The day was incredibly hot so we didn’t take as much time as we normally would but we did get a good taste of life in Baton Rouge and how life was different between the plantation owners and slaves. 

One of the exciting things is that this location is where were currently filming a television series about the life of the underground slaves that should premiere in 2016… called “Underground”.  Now that I have been here I am excited to watch the show and understand the history a little more.

Our next stop before heading out of town was to the Old State Capitol.  We spent about 30 minutes touring the museum and the history of politics in Louisiana.

Afterwards we continued our trip west and headed back to Dallas to begin the next stage of our trip… hanging out with my nieces and nephews for almost two weeks.
