On Monday, July 11th, we headed over to Island Park, Idaho. This is the same area that Matthew and I
stayed last year when we went to Yellowstone.
It is a beautiful area about 30 minutes from the West Entrance of Yellowstone
Park, which thankfully was one of the entrances that was open. We had been keeping an eye on the updates of
Yellowstone since it flooded in June and the entire park closed. By the time our trip arrived, everything was
opened back up, except the two northern entrances… and they were no longer doing
entrances into the park based on your license plate number. It ended up working out in our benefit since
so many people cancelled their trip for this summer, so the park was not going to
be as crowded as normal.
So, back to Monday… on the way to the cabin the plan was to meet up in
Missoula to shop for food. We had
planned our menu the night before at dinner.
Unfortunately, the Dellicker’s had a later start then the rest of us, so
we had to kill some time… which allowed us to show German and Mariah the 50,000
Silver Dollar Bar and shop. It is a cool
tourist store with lots of fun things to look at.
We then met up at the Costco in Missoula to purchase the majority of our
groceries. It took a lot longer than
expected so for our next stop to Walmart we only had a few of us go in and pick
up the remaining groceries. Before leaving
town, we picked up something to eat and then continued on the way to the
Cabin. We arrived around 9:30pm. The first thing we did when we arrived at the
cabin was to check out the rooms and then unpack everything from the vehicles. Thankfully, we planned an easy dinner of
hamburgers so German started up the grill as the rest of us organized
everything.
Our plan for Tuesday was to have a relaxing day on the river. German and Mariah brought their new Jet ski
which was a blast. I have not used one
since I was in my 20’s. Matthew enjoyed
riding for a bit and even taught me how to drive it before he had to crash and continuing
resting and recovering for the next day.
Poor Sarah had to spend most of the day working on homework… I remember
the days of being in school and having to take my homework wherever I
went. I spent a good portion of the day
planning the trip into Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons. After researching the route’s, we decided to
do the parks in one day each so we could have a day to rest and play on the river between each day. I enjoyed just being
in such a beautiful location with good friends… watching the moon rise over the
river.
