On Monday, we didn’t wake up super early, but we decided to take
advantage of the day and headed out for the afternoon. Well… I woke up earlier than most and had a
nice quiet time and then enjoyed mate with German and his parents who were
always the first to arise. Once everyone
else got up we packed our bags and headed out for the day.
Our first stop was for lunch. We
found a restaurant that served all you can eat Asado (and then we paid for the
drinks). It only cost about $11 a person
and I think the drinks were 1/3 the price.
The food was absolutely delicious.
We then continued on our way. I
love the views as were traveled. I
didn’t spend much time in this part of Argentina, so it was all new to me. I
only passed through the area one time with my parents on my way from Jujuy to
Iguazu and we didn’t stop anywhere.
German and Mariah know all the beautiful sites to go to… but I just
enjoy seeing everything as we drive.
Our first official stop was a lookout point that overlooks the jungle (Valle del Arroyo Cuña-Pirú). This part of the jungle is completely natural with 58 native species and three exotic species. It has not been modernized and all the people who live there are the Mbayá people. Without permission of the chief, you are not allowed to enter this area and even with permission it would be safe unless you were accompanied by a local. The view was breathtaking, for as far as you could see it was jungle land.
We continued on our way to Salto Encantado, a nearby park that had a
waterfall. The park closed at 5:00 so we
only had about 30 minutes to check out the views. Just as we arrived, one of the storms hit but
since we didn’t have much time us girls decided to brave the storm and check
out the views anyways. By the time we
finished seeing the waterfall we were completely soaked to the bones. Thankfully, the temperature was warm, so it
wasn’t completely miserable. I figured
this was probably the only time I would make it, so I wasn’t going to miss it
for little (or massive amount) of rain.
We were able to take our pictures, see the views, and enjoy the
adventure. The storm was so powerful
that it knocked down a tree and the pathway was blocked so we had to go up a
different way. Thankfully, they let
German bring the car down the road to pick up Matthew and his wheelchair.
Our next stop along the way was a surprise visit to German’s favorite
Aunt. She was so happy that he stopped
by to say hello and of course we were happy to be able to fill up the thermos
with water for mate. They had a lot of
amazing trees in their yard including trees with limes, avacados that grow the
size of a melon, weird looking tomatoes and more. We visited a bit and then continued on our
way.
I switched cars for the next portion of the drive to enjoy the mate. We drove through the second largest city in
Misiones, Obrera, which also has the biggest Oktoberfest in Argentina. It is a German city that we quickly drove
through without stopping. We continued
onto Alem, which was all decorated for Christmas. They usually have parades leading up to
Christmas but the last one was on Sunday night, so we missed it. We did get out and take some pictures and I
switched back over to Matthew’s car.
