I decided to do my updates based on each room so I could share the before
and after pictures of the remodel. I
will try to do them by the order they were completed but they may be slightly
out of order.
German decided to start on the master bathroom first, because he always
wanted us to always have a bathroom available.
When he started tearing up the flooring, he realized that there was some
water damage. We put everything on hold
for a couple days and brought out the insurance company to look into it. Since it was deemed an old leak, they gave us
a minimal amount of money to fix the flooring in both bathrooms.
At this time, we decided to add to the renovation and completely remodel
both bathrooms… my sister assisted me in finding a new vanity, mirror, and
light for the master bathroom. I then
went shopping for matching accessories. I
decided to get easy clean toilets. When German installed the vanity, he noticed
it was slightly damaged, so I was able to get a refund on the cost, which I
used to buy more items from Lowes.
German had already started the remodel when I came up with the idea to
add verses to the floor in each room. Since
they were still in the middle of working on the bathroom, I was able to write
multiple verse in the bathroom. I would handpick
each verse that I wanted for the room. A
lot of thought went into the verses, as I wanted them to be a blessing over our
house.
German helped Matthew and I pick out the tile we wanted for the shower,
and we decided that we wanted to extend the wall out a bit so that the shower
was bigger. We also added a corner bench
so Matthew could sit down if he needed to. German even came up with the idea to
add a grab bar for Matthew. He then
surprised me and added a niche to the shower. In the end, we were convinced to
get new shower doors instead of reusing the ones from the old shower, and I am
so glad we did. So many times throughout
the project we would say, “If were going to do it… we might as well do it how
we want it now.”
Once the bathroom was “complete”, I was able to start organizing and
decorating it how I wanted to. I went through all the items that were in our
old bathroom and decided what I wanted to keep and what I wanted to get rid
of. I also bought new soap dispensers,
toilet brush, garbage, baskets, etc. so that everything would match. We had so many amazon boxes arrive throughout
the remodel that we lost track of what was arriving each day.
The last step in the process was to determine how I wanted to organize
Matthew’s colostomy supplies. I wanted
them to be easily accessible to him, but to be stored in something much nicer
than what we had before (the plastic storage container). I found the perfect shelf online at Lowes and
used the money I had from the damaged vanity to purchase it. While Matthew was off buying his truck, I
surprised him and put it together. Now the bathroom is complete and fully
functional. I love how it turned out.
