In normal fashion, last minute Matthew informed me we were going over to
German’s for the Seahawks game and lunch.
Of course, there were no complaints from me… three things I love are
watching football, eating good food, and hanging out with friends. 😊
Another last-minute event was going out to dinner with Doug and Shannon. Matthew had been wanting to try out Sonoras Steak house in Maple Valley for awhile and I was exhausted so we killed two birds with one stone and too out our friends for dinner. The food was delicious, and we had a wonderful meal together. We loved being able to bless the Scotts and spend time with them. They have been such a blessing in our life.
One thing I don’t think I have mentioned is that I was injured at work
again. This time around, it was
protecting a student from running into Kent Kangley. There were two incidents in a week
(thankfully none since then) and my back is paying the price. I have had a lot of appointments and feel
like I am burning the candle on both ends between chiropractor appointments, massage
therapy, seeing a specialist, being referred to physical therapy so the MRI
will be approved, so now bi-weekly PT.
Of course, Matthew also has all of his appointments. He is still recovering from his knee surgery and
finally was able to have surgery on his finger. It was broken the day of knee
surgery but he also rebroke it a couple days before surgery. Multicare was not going to see Matthew for over
a month, so I encouraged him to ask Proliance at his next PT appointment and
they got him in the next day. When he went to get his x-rays for his appointment
at Proliance he encountered a man hitting his wife so hard it knocked her to
the ground. When the man went to go and kick
his wife Matthew stepped between them and told them man if he was going to hit
someone to hit him. The man attempted to
hit Matthew, but Matthew dodged it and hit the man and broke his finger
again. One thing I love about Matthew is
his willingness to protect those who cannot defend themselves. The doctor said that Matthew did half his job
since he was going to have to re-break the finger anyways. The surgery went
really well, and the doctor was able to just add two pins. Because of the nerve-block to get his pain
under control, he had no use of his hand/arm for a couple days. He was
completely dependent on others for EVERYTHING. Cooper and I had to feed him, help
pick movies for him to watch, answer his phone, respond to texts, scratch his
itches, etc.
My parents came into town just in time for the big windstorm that was called
a cyclone bomb. It was one of the worst
storms Washington had ever seen… many people lost power, and school was out for
three days as they worked on restoring power.
Our house lost power for a week, so Alyssa ended up going over to her mom’s
house with the twins.
Thankfully, my parents were in town because Matthew had just had his hand
surgery and was out of commission for helping out with a lot of what needed to
get done… load up on firewood, keep the fire going, set up the house with the
generator, move the fridge to plug it in so we didn’t lose the food. After the hassle we endured, we decided to buy
a house generator, so we didn’t have to worry about losing power again. Of
course, while waiting for it to arrive we have already lost power two more
times (most we have ever lost power in a year).
Since we lost a couple trees during the storm, Matthew was trying to
figure out who we could have come take care of them. My thoughts went straight to Josiah and
Seth. Josiah was excited to use the chainsaw,
and they enjoyed making a little bit of money.
We were thrilled to have their help. There was so much work they ended
up having to come out a couple times.
They did an amazing job and now we have a huge pile of firewood for the
upcoming years.
Unfortunately, post-surgery Matthew ended up getting an infection in his
finger. After a couple days on antibiotics,
it was not healing so they added another antibiotic. Finally, it started getting better and he was
able to resume occupational hand therapy.
I was able to complete my parent-teacher conferences earlier than usual
this year, so I got home earlier than expected. Matthew came up to me last
minute and told me I had to change back into clothes we were going out to
dinner… it was after all, Mariah’s birthday, and last minute they decided to go
out and celebrate. We met up with them at a fancy steakhouse for dinner. It was very similar to Sonora’s in Maple
Valley. The food was absolutely delicious.
We had a good time visiting and celebrating. After dinner, Mariah and I had a
long talk in the bathroom about all that she was going through. Sometimes life
is hard and not always do you want to get up and put a smile on your face to celebrate
even when it is your birthday. It is important to have friends that are there
for you during the good times and the bad.
Thanksgiving was a smaller group than usual this year. With Kim and Keb living in Texas and Jimmy and Karen’s family going to North Carolina to see David and Abby for the holidays. Alyssa and the kids went over to her mom’s, so it just left Cooper, Seth, my parents and the Dellickers. Of course, I was okay having a more relaxing holiday… especially since we got our power back only a few days beforehand. Chris and Sarah offered to make the Turkey and Mashed Potatoes, so we got off really easy this year. It was the perfect way to celebrate.
That night, we booked our European Cruise for August with the family.
Chris and Sarah decided they were going to join us too. Matthew and I had just
decided that we were going to go instead of working on the next phase of our house
updates that summer (outside). We figured it was a once in a lifetime
opportunity to spend time with family. Since there was a sale going on for the excursions,
we created a group chat of the girls and started booking right away. Who doesn’t
love a good deal?
