This year we focused on remodeling the inside with plans to work on the
outside in future years as we saved up some more money. Of course, Matthew wanted to get started a
bit this summer and get some things done.
Justice volunteered to come over and work a couple days… especially since
Shelby was stuck in Canada and he had some free time on his hands. It was a blessing to have his help and get
some of the yard work completed. We started out having him pull up some of the
weeds that were overtaking the deck.
It didn’t take long for Matthew to decide to pull up the back deck and hot
tub and take it all to the dump. The hot
tub has not worked in years and the deck was so damaged that he was afraid one
of the twins would get hurt if they tried walking across it.
One thing that I appreciated is that Justice was able to pull up the ferns
from around the house and make it look cleaner.
He also helped clean up the ivy that was taking over the area near the
playhouse.
We were also able to get one of the trees pulled out and its place build
a new fireplace. Matthew and my dad spent hours talking about what we should do
in the back yard and dreaming about what it could look like.
The last project my dad did for the year was to help install the air
conditioner in the master bedroom. It was
his idea to get one because he didn’t want the rest of the house to be so cold,
so he volunteered to install it. It became a bigger project than expected, as
he prepared the electricity for future projects at the same time.
It may take us a couple years to afford the backyard projects, but we’ll
take it one step at a time. When all is
done Matthew will have his dream Argentine Parrilla (Grill). I will look
forward to a place outside where I can walk barefoot and enjoy undercover when
the weather is not as nice.
