Matthew and I decided that
our summer “vacations” for the next couple years would be camping so we decided
to splurge and by a tent trailer. Camping is heavenly when you have a tent
trailer already packed and ready to go.
It was so much easier to pack food and clothes for the week than to have
to remember everything else that we needed to pack for the week. On the way up we decided to buy a couple
essentials of camping for Shane such as a tent of his own, a new bike, a
fishing pole, and of course pellets for his gun. We even got an essential for me... a bucket toilet.. and boy did I love it..!
We decided to leave for
our camping trip on Wednesday morning so we could find a spot but unfortunately
we were delayed when the truck broke down on the way. Thankfully we were less than a mile away from
an auto shop and they were able to fit us in and God allowed the quoted bill of
over a grand to be less than $150. Because
of the delay we weren't able to get the spot that we wanted but we still found
a secluded camping spot only a couple miles away from our original
location. It was the perfect spot for us
to enjoy the weekend with my parents who arrived the next day to celebrate the
4th of July with us.
Camping to me is heavenly…
not only do I get to enjoy the constant beauty of God’s creation but we get
away from everything and just enjoy the time as a family. Of course I took walks every day (so I still
got in my 40 miles for the week), spent hours just sitting and studying the
word of God, read by the campfire, visited with friends and family, explored the
woods with Matthew (which was a lot of fun) and played together.
On one of my walks I ran
into some friends of Matthew who go camping in the area every year. He didn't know if they were going to be
coming up this weekend or not so it was a surprise to actually run into them
and Matthew enjoyed being able to visit with them throughout the weekend. Of course, that also meant that we decided to
extend our trip a couple days so that we could have more time just as a
family. Thankfully, my parents had
brought enough food that we had plenty left over to last a couple extra
days.
This was just the first
camping trip of the summer… there are more to come throughout the summer and
even more in years to come. Here are a
