Nope… the state has NOT reopened from the Covid-19 pandemic… we
still have to wait for that to happen… but this is something we have been
waiting for even longer. Matthew and I
were trying to do the math and we think it has been about 7 years since we’ve
waited for L&I to finally provide him with a prosthetic. We never were reimbursed for the out-of-expenses
cost for the amputation itself and the mechanical prosthetic he originally received
was through our other insurance but we now finally have one purchased by
L&I… and it is a iLimb prosthetic…!
In the midst of the chaos of Covid-19, there are still blessings
occurring. He was super excited to finally
receive it. All of the fingers can move
and he has an iPod touch that allows him to change what movements/grips the hand
does. Of course, Covid-19 has things somewhat,
as he has a neuroma in his stump that causes a lot of pain and interferes with
the impulses controlling the arm… unfortunately, until they allow for elective surgeries
to start back up he can only use the arm for short time periods.
We are excited for him to learn all the different things he can
do and get more training once the country open back up. Covid-19 may be trying to wreak havoc on our
world but I choose to focus on the good in the midst of the chaos and not allow
it to have control over my life…!
Working on the connections..
Matthew really enjoys the time with Thom...
Learning to use his new prosthetic...
