A Week Off… but only a Weekend Away…!

I had a week off in February, but Matthew and I were only able to sneak away for the weekend.  Matthew had a lot of medical appointments and testing on both sides of the weekend which prevented the trip from being any longer… but it was so good to get away.

On Saturday morning we met up with Chris and Sarah and headed north.  Thankfully, Chris was willing to drive my car since Matthew still isn’t cleared to drive and I wanted to just relax. 

Our first stop on the trip was in China Town in Vancouver.  We found a restaurant that made authentic and delicious Chinese food.  Chris ordered for the group since he knew what type of food was good.

After dinner we continued on our way to the ferry dock.  It was dark on our trip across, so we couldn’t see much.  We found our cabin for the weekend in Sechelt, Canada, and it was beautiful… we quickly unpacked and checked out the place.  Of course, the first thing we did was make sure the hot tub was ready to go.  It started snowing outside which was just perfect for going in the hot tub. 

Shortly after we came back inside for the night, the power went out in the cabin.  Thankfully, there were lanterns all over the place.  We visited for awhile and ate the ice cream before it melted and then headed to bed for the night.

In the morning the power was still out so Chris made a fire to warm up the cabin.  Then he cooked us a breakfast/lunch over the grill.  I of course, contacted the owner of the cabin to find out if there was more firewood anywhere.  Not only did he have a neighbor drop off wood, but he gave us a $100 discount.

After Sarah finished her homework, we decided to go explore the area.  We saw a light house on the island but had nowhere to stop and take pictures.  Then, we found a beautiful park to watch the sunset and take pictures.  It was the perfect way to spend the evening.  Afterwards, we went back to the house and made a steak dinner.  Thankfully, the power was back on and we had plenty of wood to keep a fire going.  We ended the evening back in the hot tub relaxing.

Morning came way too early… and it was time to pack up and head home.  On the way back to the ferry we enjoyed the beauty of the drive and stopped at Gibsons, a quaint town, to tour the area.  The ferry ride was absolutely gorgeous with the snowcapped mountains in the background.  On the other side, we decided to explore the mountains a bit and have a view of the city.

On the drive home, we stopped for Mexican just across the border.  Then we continued on our way… We got home just in time for me to do some laundry and pack up for the trip to the hospital for Matthew’s testing the next day.  The vacation was a whirlwind but just what I needed.
