December – A month of Celebrating Christ…

December was a busy month for me as I finished up my double load and we spent time with friends and family.  It was also when we had to decide what traditions we wanted to do as a family and join in with our extended relatives.  I am not one that is big on decorations but I got a lot of slack for that so I decided to be good and make sure the house was decorated for Christmas.  Thankfully my mom handed me down a tree as well as lights and ornaments to put on it.  Matthew and I put the tree up and then let Shane decorate it however he wanted to.  He had a lot of fun putting up his ornaments that his grandma had saved for him throughout the years.

The Women’s Ministry at my church puts on a Christmas Tea in December.  It is a time for all the women to come together and enjoy a good meal and hear the gospel message.  It is an event that is meant to reach out into the community.  Many of Kim’s neighbors join us for this event but this is the first year that my Grandma joined us.  We all had a good time just visiting and enjoying the day.

Every year the cousins get together at my Mom’s to decorate cookies.  Of course, the girls are definitely more into this than the boys so they were in the kitchen all afternoon.  The boys on the other hand played video games together until they had to come and decorate their own cookies.  While Shane didn’t enjoy the decorating of cookies much he did have a blast playing with his cousins.

We had to decide how we were going to celebrate the Holidays.  Thankfully, Matthew’s family gets together both on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so we were able to celebrate Christmas Eve with them.  We had a meal at his Aunt’s house before going to the Christmas Eve service at West Sound.  Afterwards, we went over to Matthew’s Mom’s house for dinner and an exchange of presents.  We then had to race out to get to Faith on time for the Christmas Eve service there.  It is amazing how at home we are at Faith and how enjoyable it was to be with our church family celebrating Christ’s birth.

On Christmas Day we had the morning as a family as Shane opened up his presents from us before breakfast.  Around noon the cousins started arriving.  We were smart this year and got the cousin’s picture over with before the children got tired and grumpy.  Then we exchanged presents and had lunch together.  We missed having Jeremy’s family over but all the cousins had a lot of fun playing together. Over all, the day was relaxing and enjoyable.
