March was a crazy month for me. We
started the month off with doctor appointments for Matthew. It has been almost
a year since Matthew had surgery on his arm… which changed the size and shape
of it… since then he has not been able to use the myoelectric prosthetic. March 1st was the first time he
was going to be seeing his L&I doctor in person (due to Covid-19) so we
wanted to make sure we had everything in order.
We picked up the prosthetic to bring to the appointment to show him that
it wasn’t fitting/working so he could write it up in his chart notes
appropriately… we then returned the prosthetic and prescription from the doctor
so the prosthetic’s office could submit all the paperwork for approval… and finally
after a few weeks it was FINALLY approved!
Now the process begins to create a new socket so Matthew will have a
working prosthetic again (after a year of waiting).
March 3rd, I also had my last safety net IEP (which is very
last minute for me since they are due by March 5th. Work has been so crazy busy building materials
for the students, creating lessons, making sure the IEP classes are running
smoothly, teaching the group classes, checking student data, checking in on families…
I love my job and feel like things are finally running smoothly online.
Matthew ended up going out of town for almost two weeks in March. Alex needed to do training before he could
head back into the mission field and it as going to cost an extra $100 a day
for housing/food so, Matthew decided to drive the trailer over to Coeur d’Alene
and spend the time with him instead. Although I missed Matthew while he was
gone, I am glad he had this opportunity to spend time with Alex and serve him
in this way. He spent a lot of time just
laying in bed while Alex was away at class, but they were able to spend the
evenings together visiting.
Of course, while Matthew was gone, I was insanely busy working on a
surprise project… I decided to clean/organize our bedroom. I spent the weekends and evenings cleaning
and organizing to make it look good. I spent
all day on Sunday cooking so I would have soft food to eat for the week since I
was still on my “soft food diet”. It
made things a lot easier for the week having the food already prepared. When I wasn’t busy cleaning or cooking, I was
working on projects for work to try and catch up on materials for the students. I think by the end of the couple weeks… I
needed a vacation to recover.
Things were running smoothly at work, but the governor put things on a
spin when he made the mandate that all school districts had to offer in-person
education by April 19th (earlier for Elementary students). I don’t think KSD was planning on returning
to in-person this year, so it was quite the shift. I already had been communicating with my
families, so I had a good understanding on what they were wanting… plus I had
created such an amazing online program. In
the end, I didn’t expect much to change… but it wasn’t until the tentative
agreement came out that I knew that things were going to remain the same for
me. My co-worker was returning in-person
since the majority of his students wanted to go back in and I would remain online
since the majority of my students were planning on staying online. Things may change
slightly… such as what time we have classes but now that I know what to expect
I can move forward and continue planning for the remainder of the year.
Of course, the only frustrating thing with online learning has been the
internet troubles I have been having lately. I have spent the last few weeks
trying to resolve them. At first, the
internet would go out completely and I would need to reset the router to even
get online. I changed out my router and now I am dealing with slower internet
where I have to restart the modem/router to get it to speed up. I have spent
hours/days and multiple tech visits to try to resolve it. Here is to hoping that it is resolved soon…
