As many of you know May Marston and Zina Rodriguez (from my home church) were able to come down and visit me and serve alongside me for a little over a week. They came during the “winter break” and we stayed busy on a constant basis.
It was neat to have them here so they could see a little of what I do in Catamarca. Some of the activities that we were able to experience together are: Junior High youth group, High School Youth group,
church services, Tour of Catamarca so they could understand a little about the culture and the strongholds here in Catamarca (I even learned that it’s name means “Stronghold”). Visit the Children’s
Hospital (though due to an outbreak on respiratory
problems we couldn’t visit the patients… just so you know school was shut down early because they don’t have heaters and all the children were getting sick and all scheduled surgeries were cancelled so their would be enough beds for critical patients of this illness). We were also able to get together with various English students, one whom invited us to her house to eat lunch with her family. One of my favorite activities was visiting the local “Girls Home” for girls who either have no families, were abused in the house, runaways, or having trouble with the law. We were able to present a skit, a band with choreography, a message, a time of prayer with the girls, and tea time. I
enjoyed this immensely and am looking forward to returning one day soon. We also had a Women’s Tea and although few showed up it was an enjoyable time of studying the word together and praying. Our Thursday Night Small Group had
quite the turn out as did the Day of the Friends Party afterwards that lasted until after 4am. They were able to eat meals with various families of the church, Visit the Poncho (a local Festival that is famous throughout Argentina), Enjoy a Pijama party with some of the girls, and see me respond to a cr
isis with one of the youth which kept us up pretty late one night. All in all it was a great time for them to get to know a lot of the youth that I am working with, especially the girls, see the needs here in Catamarca, and be an encouragement to me. By the time the left, I’m sure we were all exhausted and ready for a break…
